Plumbing in Freehold: new toilet, cast iron drain repiped to the stack

The customer needed the toilet replaced and the cast iron drain repiped to the stack. We did both, installed a new water heater and did the electrical work, so the new toilet now sits on a repiped drain that runs to the stack.

Questions about plumbing

What is a water heater drain pan and do I need one?
A drain pan is a shallow tray under a tank water heater that catches small leaks and condensation. It is most useful where a leak could damage finished floors or living space below. Pans are often piped to a drain or an outside location so the water is carried away. Whether one is required is decided locally.
When should I consider repiping a house?
Consider repiping when you have repeated leaks, discolored water, low pressure throughout the house, or pipe materials known for failure. A plumber can inspect the existing pipes and tell you whether spot repairs or a full replacement makes sense. The work usually involves opening some wall or ceiling areas to reach the lines.
What does an expansion tank do?
When water is heated it expands, and in a closed plumbing system that extra volume has nowhere to go. An expansion tank has an air cushion that absorbs it and keeps pressure from spiking. Without one, spikes can strain fixtures, valves and the water heater. The tank's air charge should be checked and set to match the home's water pressure.
